Cybersecurity Study Tips
Here are some of the strategies I’ve used while working full-time and pursuing my degree and certifications:
- Pomodoro Technique: Break study sessions into 25-minute sprints with 5-minute breaks.
- Mind Mapping: Visualize complex topics like the OSI model, attack chains, or threat analysis.
- Lab First: Learn by doing. I prioritize TryHackMe/HackTheBox over reading theory alone.
- Document Everything: Keep personal notes, screenshots, and a daily log of what you study.
- Use Flashcards: Tools like Anki help with memorizing ports, Linux commands, and acronyms.
- Peer Support: Join study groups or communities like Discord, LinkedIn, or VetSec.
Tools I Recommend
- TryHackMe & Hack The Box for real-world cyber labs
- PortSwigger Web Security Academy for learning web hacking
- Notion or Obsidian for note-taking and tracking cert objectives
- Splunk (Free edition) for log analysis practice
- Kali Linux for pen testing tools and scripts
